Welcome
Hello everyone and anyone! My name is Bryan King. I have a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Baylor University with a Vector Biology focus studying mosquito genetics in diapause and bacterial interactions. I am currently a Laboratory Manager for the Greathouse Lab at Baylor University.
I am also an undergraduate mentor for undergrads interested in biological research. Alongside my own work, I focus on growing and developing undergraduates into students who are interested in and enjoy research, while training and uplifting the next generation of scientists and science-literate professionals.
My Ph.D. research revolved around the diapausing phenotype in the overwintering Culex pipiens mosquito and studying the genes that regulate and enhance survival during the winter. I also work with Wolbachia to study the interactions between this intracellular parasitic bacteria and how it can impact this diapause phenotype. This not only allows us to learn about this wintering survival, but also allows insight into possible ways of vector control of this species.
As Lab Manager for the Greathouse Lab, I manage Post-Doctoral, Ph.D. and Undergraduate researchers in the lab. I oversee everything in the lab to make sure it runs smoothly so there's minimal lag time in research conducted. I also oversee all IBC research compliance for the lab.
